    Boot problem

    Hi,

I have a problem booting my computer after installing Ubuntu 9.

I had originally installed Linux Hardy Heron on my computer alongside Vista. However, I haven't used Ubuntu for quite awhile due to forgetting my password. I decided to clear some space so deleted one of the Ubuntu partitions, thinking it was just a data partition. I forgot that my system boots through the Ubuntu menu.

When I went to boot up recently the computer would not boot and got a Grub error 17 message.
I decided to "fix" the problem by installing Ubuntu 9 for which I had a copy on disk. However, after this installation I am still unable to boot, and getting the same message. I am operating my computer from the Ubuntu CD drive at the moment. Help would be appreciated.

    Hi and Welcome !

Have you tried to re-install Vista Boot Loader?
Follow instructions from here. If Vista Boots up fine, delete Ubuntu Partitions.

In case you want to keep Ubuntu and setup dual boot, boot up from Ubuntu LiveCD and post the output of sudo fdisk -l command here.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
