Can a Ubuntu Live CD be modded to start at lower freq ?

    Hi.

A friend of mine wants to use Ubuntu Hardy Heron's 'Try without installing' feature. But his monitor displays an 'out of frequency' error on booting.

I know that the problem can be resolved by editing xorg.conf once Ubuntu's installed, but if one were to try the 'Try without installing' feature, is there any way the Live CD can be modified to start at lower frequencies ?

Both of us are noobs at programming, and my skill level is limited to amateur JavaScripting and a bit of FoxPro.

    Welcome to the forums!

You can check this page for information on how to customize the Ubuntu liveCD:

I've never done it, but I see no reason why you couldn't implement a custom xorg.conf file with the frequencies that you need right into the CD. There should also be some kernel boot options that you could use to change the refresh/sync rates before the live disk boots, if that would work for you:
