Ubuntu USB WiFi not Connecting in VMware

Hi, I'm using VMware to test out Ubuntu before I dive down and out of Windows and I can't get my D-Link WUA 2340 to be even detected. And here's the confusing part. I tried this in VirtualBox and I had internet access. I tried to use ndiswrapper to install a driver, which worked fine until it said that it couldn't confirm if the device was plugged in. I want to use Ubuntu as a server for my website and I need the internet. I need the speed of VMware and that's why I'm not using VirtualBox. Any advice will be appreciated

Okay, I installed Vmware tools and now I have another problem that might be linked to the first. When I enter the terminal as root and I try to restart, or even start the network service, it says that the services is unrecognized.
    Can anyone please help me?

    1) What VMware? Workstation? Server? ESX? And what version?

    2) To clarify, you have VMware installed on a Windows host and are running Ubuntu as a guest (virtual machine)? What Ubuntu version?

    3) If the USB wireless is in use by the Windows host, you will not see that device inside the guest OS (VM.) The "network" provided to the guest OS is a just a generic wired NIC - this is what the guest OS will see. It will usually be a generic AMD NIC or an Intel E1000 NIC.

    1) I'm using VMware Workstation, the latest version which I just updated a few days ago.

    2) I have VMware installed on my Windows 7 machine. Inside the virtual machine, I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 (I tried 9.10 and Mint 8 with the same problems arising).

    3) I just want to make sure that inside the virtual machine, I'm trying to connect a virtual wired connection and not a wireless signal. Vmware is directing the traffic through the virtualized network and through my USB WiFi, right?

Also, what type of network should I use; bridged or NAT?

    3) Yes - please refer to the VMware documentation.

Because Ubuntu 10.04 is beta code and you are a new user, I would suggest using 9.10.

Here is a guide to configure a NIC on Ubuntu.

Unless something has changed recently, bridged mode cannot be used with a wireless NIC on the host OS - you would have to use NAT.

Okay, I have a slightly different GUI than the one in the link. Mine shows me an Ethernet interface and a loopback interface. Ubuntu says that I have a network connection when I try to connect the Ethernet interface, however, when I try to do something over the internet, nothing works. Any suggestions?

By the way, is there any way to add a photo in this forum to make it easier to see what I mean by a differrent GUI?
