No login screen
Hello,
So today i was using kate to write a little bit of C++... I saved, closed the program clicked power and pressed suspend. I opened my laptop about 5 minutes later and the ubuntu logo shows up, disappears, the cursor appears at the top left, and then the screen turns black and nothing happens.
I am running Ubuntu 9.10, 64-bit, and I am using the usual grub boot loader.
I am not sure if you need any more information... i wish i could add more but that is it. I did start it up in safe mode and i can get access to everything when i log in that way. But if i go back to the regular boot after typing $reboot it still does the same thing.
Thanks for helping guys

Which Graphics Card do you have? Did you upgrade kernel recently?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I have not done any updates since the install.

1468 MB of memory on it

Post output here.Code:cd /etc/X11 ls grep -i driver xorg.conf

Ok.. i am not sure what happened but i tried to boot up and it just worked. My professor said he had no idea, as he watched this all unfold....
Anyhow, here was the output if you were curious:
ls
app-defaults fonts xinit Xsession XvMCConfig
cursors rgb.txt xkb Xsession.d Xwrapper.config
default-display-manager X Xresources Xsession.options
anyhow... thank you for your time I am not sure what happened here... any idea?

I am not sure what was the problem. There isn't any xorg.conf file in /etc/X11 folder and X Server is using default configuration for your Graphics Card and Monitor.
Have you installed ATI Proprietary driver? It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

i don't think this is graphics issue, it has to do with suspend not working properly or not being setup properly
