9.10 No ethernet No wireless - read everything, no solution...
Dear Forum Members,
I've set up a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 on a Acer Aspire 5739G machine.
If I were to use 9.04 or older versions, I had both ethernet and wireless working fine.
But with 9.10, I have no connection at all. It doesn't list any network devices.
As I have no internet I can't do any updates to fix one another.
What shall I do? Do I have to format the disc and download a new daily-build?
Thank you very much!

If it's any consolation I and many others have the same problem
. I upgraded my old Dell Latitude laptop from 9.04 and it failed to complete with unrecoverable fatal errors
. Thinking a fresh install would work I retried and although it all went well, there is no wireless or ethernet working. The OS does not recognise any of my network devices. Reverting back to 9.04 and all is well again
. Seems networking bugs are very common on 9.10 - I'm avoiding it until I can figure out what's wrong
PS - I should add that I also upgraded a self build P4 Asus based desktop from 9.04 to 9.10 with no problems at all (network side seems fine)

First I'm no Linux expert. Ubuntu is great for my old laptop which was struggling under XP and would have died under the weight of Vista! Web browsing and the Open Office package cover most of what I need. From an APPs point of view I can see nothing in 9.10 over 9.04 that justifies the grief over the network issues. If, however, you're a complete Linux nerd then you'll probably enjoy the self flagellation that goes with trying to resolve the problem. I'll do a little more research but I'm not going to dedicate a lot of time to this as 9.04 is fine
