    Ubuntu Netbook version login

    I downloaded this to try out on an old Pentium 3 laptop and it boots from the live CD but then asks me to login and give a password. I've tried test, and guest, but no joy. Is there some standard one I'm supposed to use?

    I don't think it matters but the Toshiba laptop has Windows 98 on it.

    Thanks for helping!

    Have you tried to keep both, Login Id and Password, blank?
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    I have come across a few distro's that have a login name and password.
    They are usually as follows;

    Name: root
    P/W: toor

    But I didn't think it was put on an official Ubuntu distro. ???
    Did you actually download that from the official Ubuntu site or get it from somewhere else?

    The official link is here;
    Download Ubuntu Netbook Remix | Ubuntu

    Thats a good point.

    From where did you download .iso image? Is it an OEM version?

    Thanks for the suggestiions. I tried "root" and "toor"and leaving logins blank, I also downloaded again and made sure it was official,but same thing..."authentication failure". I tried Puppy Linux and Antix(Mepis) and they work fine (they don't ask me for anything).

    Where else might be good to ask this question?

    As I asked earlier too, post the link from where you have downloaded .iso image.

    I just downloaded the Iso and tried it in Virtual Box.
    Got the usual boot menu screen asking if I want to try it, install it, check Cd, Memtest or boot from first hard drive.
    No where did it ask for a password.

    Do you see this menu when you boot up the Cd for the first time?
    If you don't then you may have a bad Cd or the burn went wrong.
    Try booting it in another computer and if you do get to the boot menu select the option to check the Cd.

    But if it still asks you for a password when trying it in another pc then you most likely have a bad Cd.

    Just downloaded latest version of Ubuntu Netbook and it didn't ask for any User Id/Password.

    During installation, are you selecting 'Use Windows OS Credentials' or any such option related to use of UserID/Password of other installed OS?
