Can someone please send me the link to a good HOWTO guide on how to make a linux installion CD? I downloaded the alternative install files for xubuntu 6.06 and I want to make it a bootable CD or whatever and I can't find any good sites on how to do it.

No, don't make the disk bootable yourself because the ISO image burning process takes care of that step automatically.

You can check this HowTo for the proper steps:

Xubuntu 6.06 is very old and I would suggest you download and install latest version, 9.10.
Next version, 10.4 is scheduled to be released on April, 29 this year.

Just download .iso and select Burn Image to Disk option in your CD/DVD package. .iso images are bootable by default. Do not create it bootable yourself.

Make sure to burn it as An Image only.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I agree with dc, furthermore I'd suggest booting it on to a flash drive using unetbootin or one of those. 6.06 is 4 years old, you'll just be mad if you install it as it hadn't quite gotten as user friendly
