    Pick the right network

    Hi

I have two wireless access points in my home network. A Linksys upstairs and a Watchguard Firebox downstairs. The Firebox acts as the gateway for my network to the internet (well, the ISP's router anyway). I invariably use my Hardy Heron installed HP laptop downstairs, less than 10ft from the Firebox. The signal bar for the Firebox shows three bars, the linksys just one.

So, why the heck does my Ubuntu insist on connecting to the Linksys everytime?! I can manually switch it afterward but still, it's annoying.

    Any ideas gratefully received.

    JJ

What have VPNs got to do with it?

IPs? Well the Firebox is the DHCP server and I've configured a 'big enough' range and set reserved addresses. The Linksys isn't a DHCP server at all...

Well in my Ubuntu it's not a big deal to just delete the wireless conections that I don't want.
well if you config your network-manager just to your firebox it normaly solve the prob by it's own...
There you also can write in your MAC adresses.II you have configured it also on your Linksys that just your Firebox (Mac) can connect.
Is it not possible for other MAC's to connect.

well I'm also not a super crack but these is the lowest and easiest way...I know that when you know to much you forget often the easy parts...lol
    Am I right or what?
Hope I could help a bit.

Not looked at the link, and I can see where you're going with your ideas, but I do sometimes use the laptop upstairs (as I am right now) so deleting the network connection isn't really the way forward.

But as ever, I do appreciate anyone's contributions. Thank you!
