    file permission issue

    Hi,

I am new to Linux Ubuntu and am eager to learn from you experts. I have a question here. I have a folder that has files in it. If i change the permission of the folder to say "chmod 777 foldername", I believe this change the permission of the folder only but not the files under it.

In Windows, it works differently from Linux. By changing the permission of a folder, the changes will be applied to the rest of the files under the folder. Is there a way of applying the same rule to Linux. Otherwise, i have to go through to each and every files to change the permission from read-only to read-write-execute permission.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance

    Hi and Welcome !

As suggested by mzv, use -R option with chmod to change modes recursively. Check manual of chmod command.
    Code:
    chmod -R <mode> <folder>
    man chmod
I would suggest you to check linuxcommand.org.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
