[SOLVED] quad core issue
i have a toshiba satellite A505 with a Intel i5, 4 gig of ram. windows7...
im trying to install Ubuntu 9.10, when i put in the disk it gets to the try Ubuntu without any change, install, or disk check.
when i tell it to install or try the screen flashes then nothing. the screen stays on, but it never shows up.ive tried 64 and 32 bit types.same thing happens.what can i do to install linux, i hate windows.

this is a graphics issue, i would try using the ubuntu alternate installer, on the ubuntu download page, click on alternative download options or whatever and it should be there, it is the text based installer
i would suggest you backup any important data first and also make sure you have free (unpartitioned) space to install into

I agree with coopstah13. Its a Graphics Card problem only. Install Ubuntu through Ubuntu Alternate Installation CD. It has text based installer and works fine with most of machines.
I would suggest you to decide partition(s) for Ubuntu before starting installation. You can create partitions during installation but it would be better if you create those using PartedMagic LiveCD first.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I agree with the others that you should use the alternate installer version of Ubuntu and personally recommend the 64-bit version:
http://mirrors.us.kernel.org/ubuntu-...nate-amd64.iso
It works for me every time, whereas the liveCD version always gives me fits.oz
