Which installation CD are you using? LiveCD's text install option doesn't work properly in most of machines.
Try Ubuntu Alternate Installation CD. It has actual text installer and work fine everytime.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Check same Installation CD in other machine. It could be because of corrupt .iso or bad burn.
If Installation CD works fine in other machine, try acpi=off option.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

This sounds like a graphics card problem. When you hear the sounds try pressing Ctrl + Alt + F1 which should drop you to a black screen asking for login details.
Enter your user name and password here and then type
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
Enter your password when asked. This should perform an upgrade of Ubuntu and hopefully fix the issue with your graphics.
Once it has completed type
sudo shutdown -r now
to reboot.If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

That's not much to go on, but if you mean your alternate installer disk isn't working in your machine or any others, it's likely a bad burn to disk.
You can check this HowTo for all the steps needed to properly download the ISO file, burn it to disk as an image, then boot with the newly created installation disk:
