    Edubuntu to bootable DVD

    I got Edubuntu 9.04 from this "hXXp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/releases/9.04/release/" link, burnt it with Nero as an image to a DVD, but it does not want to boot at all. It was only that one iso file of 837MB.

    Did I do something wrong, was that the whole thing I should have downloaded?

    Could someone please advise me?

    EDIT: Jay!!! for my first post.

    BTW I'm a Primary School teacher and have been dual-booting with Edubuntu 7.10 & Windows for a short while. I managed to do this, but more than this I'm afraid my knowledge of Linux is quite limited - non-existent.

    What image did you download? On the link, I only see images of 320+ MB.

    I would recommend installing the latest Ubuntu 9.10, then you can either go to the Software Center, search for Edubuntu, and install there, or do
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install edubuntu-desktop

    Unfortunately I cannot post a link yet, but where you were, at the bottom of the page is the link to "source".

    There you'll find the iso file of 837MB.

    I live in South Africa and my Internet is capped. 9.10 was just too big.

    The images on that page are all add-on disks.
    You need to have Ubuntu installed first then use that disk to add in the packages of Edubuntu.

    From the first line of that page;
    The Ubuntu educational add-on CD contains additional useful packages, including many educational programs. It requires that an Ubuntu desktop system already be installed.
    The source code you downloaded is used to build Edubuntu not install it.

    Seems that Edubuntu no longer has it's own install Cd. I looked at the Edubuntu.org home page and they have this notice on their download page;

    Rather than an operating system on its own, Edubuntu 9.04 provides an educational application "layer" on top of an existing Ubuntu desktop.
    Edubuntu 9.04 is an Add-on on top of regular Ubuntu desktop.
    You will need to get a Ubuntu 9.04 Cd, install it then get the add-on Cd from here;
    Edubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope)

    Choose either the AMD64 iso if you installed the Ubuntu 64bit operating system or the i386 iso if you installed the 32bit Ubuntu system.

    Ah, that image contains the source code for all the applications. That is not what you want. You want one of the iso files from the main page there. Likely the i386 one, unless you know you have a 64 bit version of Ubuntu.

    If you're able, you can purchase an Ubuntu CD or DVD. Or the whole Ubuntu repositories for ~$30 U.S.
    OSDisc.com - Buy Ubuntu CDs and DVDs - New Releases. Low Prices.

    Otherwise, you can often find the latest Ubuntu CD in various Linux Magazines for ~$10 U.S.

    You mentioned Ubuntu 7.10. Are you running Ubuntu 9.04 now? You would need to be to use Edubuntu 9.04.

    Edubuntu is an add-on for Ubuntu/Kubuntu. It isn't a distribution in itself. First you have to install Ubuntu or Kubuntu. Then you can install the Edubuntu packages.

    You could use v7.10, a full OS install
    Edubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon)
    and maybe update the individual programs after install?

    Nice. It seems they decided to provide a pre-configured installation for Edubuntu 9.10. I know that 9.04 only had "add-on" iso images. In fact, I navigated up to the 9.04 release and that is indeed what I found, still.

    According to the DistroWatch page on Edubuntu it appears that they had full releases up until version 7.10, then they skipped on full releases until 9.10 came out:

    DistroWatch.com: Edubuntu

    I'm guessing they haven't left any releases out of the chart.
