Is it unmounted? Check the output of df -h command.
Unmount USB and execute format it.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

USB disk should not be mounted. Its not possible to format mounted partition. Unmount it using umount command and format it after that.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

install gParted and then unmount the pendrive and then format.
BTW,what's the command that you are using to format the pendrive.
or else
you cd to pendrive and issue the command

As I asked in my first post in this thread, plug-in USB and execute df -h command. Post output here.
Code:tail -s 3 -f /var/log/messages df -h
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
