What and where is folder wx0gbehe.slt, please?

This morning I was saving some contact information from a couple of websites but instead of " desktop " appearing in the save to - wx0gbehe.slt now appears and I have to change it.

I have looked for this file/folder but I can not find it. Does anyone know what this is, please? Thanks!!

That sounds like a temporary download directory. It is probably in your home directory somewhere in the hidden .mozilla directory.

Go to your home directory in Nautilus and press Ctrl + h to view hidden files and directories.

I did not find it, Elija, but I did find a you tube folder that I sent to the trash!

Is there a terminal command that I could use to remove the wx0gbehe.slt folder?

Let's try some bash-fu to see if we can find it...

Open a terminal and execute the command

    sudo updatedb

This may take a while to run, when it has finished, run

    locate wx0gbehe.slt

    hopefully this will find it.

Hooray for bash - fu, Elija!!

Recently I went to the email website recommended to me on LF but I could not sign up because there was a freeze on new accounts. I just ran your bash - fu and this is the result:

    [sudo] password for cousinlucky:

That's odd, cousinlucky... because I visit Lavabit daily and have never had any of that in my own .mozilla folder.

Anyway, you should be able to navigate to that folder using the file manager of your choice and delete any unwanted folders/files. Don't forget that you have to enable "view hidden files" to see anything in the hidden .mozilla folder.

I use nautilus, Ozar, and I have not been able to find a mozilla folder at all. I do have a Seamonkey folder, though, it may be in there.

Assuming that the path is correct to the Lavabit folder in the code that you posted above:

    open Nautilus
    click View in the toolbar
    click Show Hidden Files
    click on the .mozilla folder
    right-click the Lavabit folder
    select Move To Trash

    Hope that helps.

Well, gentlemen, this old man learned something new this morning. When i did not find anything in the nautilus Seamonkey folder I typed in /home/cousinlucky/.mozilla/Lavabit/wx0gbehe.slt and then I pressed enter and the files appeared. I started going through them looking for the things that came up on the list above. In one of the many files was my LF user name and password which got me more peeved than I already was so I sent every single folder and file to the trash and emptied the trash. I then ran an apt-get update and when I get back home I will download the 8 updates.

I am quite naturally wondering how many other websites have downloaded stuff into my computer just by my visiting their site!!

All websites that you visit leave things on your computer, some more so than others, depending on your surfing habits and the sites that you visit.
