PS3 Hard Drive on Linux- Ubuntu
Hey, recently my ps3 unfortunately got the YLOD and i hadn't backed up all my saved files prior to that. Yesterday i tried to connect the ps3 hard drive to the computer to see if i could access and possibly copy the files, despite people saying it isn't possible. The thing is when i connect it the drive doesn't come up in 'Computer,' however it is shown in disk utility. From memory it also says 'unrecognized or unknown' underneath. Any ideas on how i could access the drive? Any programs?
Cheers.

Hi and Welcome !
Execute sudo fdisk -l and blkid commands in Terminal and post output here.
Code:sudo fdisk -l blkid
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

The PS3 uses a proprietary, encoded filesystem - it will not be readable by a stock Linux kernel.
As always, much more information available via Google.

Heres what came out fo the sudo fdisk -l command
Disk /dev/sda: 40.0 GB, 40007761920 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4864 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xe3db044f
Disk /dev/sda doesn't contain a valid partition table
I'm aware of that HRO and i think my best bet is fixing my old ps3 (which i'm currently doing), but worth a shot.
Cheers.
