My mouse pointer disapeared? Howd that happen?
Hey everyone,
Im running Ubuntu and I recently installed driver for my HD5700 Radeon and been having problems with the display I changed the resolution and now my mouse has disapeared at least I think it was after I changed the resolution. THe thing changing the resolution solved my other problem which was the text was blury or faded. What do I do to fix this how could it just disapear . When I right click the drop down menu does appear but there is no point. I can still open programs up but its seriousy frustrating.
OK so I just went into the terminal and typed compiz it returned:
Xgl not present
Xset q doesn't revel the location of the log file using fallback /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Detected PCI ID for VGA Flags: bus master, VGA palette snoop,66MHZ, medium devsel, latency 64
Checking for texture_from pixmap : not present
Trying again with indirect rendering...
.. not present
aborting and using fallback : usr/bin/metacity
What does this all mean im pretty sure something wrong because I have catalyst up and running and drivers I thought where running correctly.
PS. best instruction to install the HD5700 radeon drivers and catalyst control can be found on the wiki ATI drivers install page for linux
Thanks in advance

Hello and Welcome!
I'm just curious. Have you tried to "uninstall" the driver and checked if your mouse appears again? Thanks!nujinini

So Im pretty sure the problem stemmed installing more then one way the ATI drivers
OK so I think the reason the mouse disapeared is that I installed the drivers manually and that I had installed them automatically and they where messing with eachother.
So created a new ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala installed the drivers immediately in the terminal after updating and rebooting installation went well. but I have a problem.
Its almost as if the resolution or the screen is stretched my resolution ius
1366*768 so I changed the resolution to 1280*960 makes the text more readeble but it not as sharp a picture how do I figure out if the driver is installed correctly or where this problem is comming from
Instlation method for the ATI NEW DRIVERS AS FOLLOWS:
open terminal
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libqtgui4
sudo sh ./ati-driver-installer-10-3-x86.x86_64.run
install goes good and install catalyst control reboot
then the screen seems slightly not fully stretched and preformance doest seem amazing even though I have HD ati Radeon 5700 is it my monitor or the driver?
By the way im not exactly sure how to uninstall the driver if you know please let me know thanks im a newbie
thanks
