Question [SOLVED] Ubuntu Ultimate 9.10 xorg problems

hi there,i am using a alienware m17x QX9300 ATI 4870 CrossfireX 1920x1200p and till now was working fine with ultimate on it,now i don't know what happen ,before open the login screen is telling me that he has to start with low resolution, and after login sometimes is freezing.when i try to open display to set the resolution is giving me this :

It appears that your graphics diver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool.
Do you want to use your graphics driver vendor's tool instead?

and if i press yes is giving me this:

There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux Edition. It could be caused by the following. No ATI graphics driver is installed, oor the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware, or configuer using aticonfig

    Here's my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file - maybe there's some weirdness in it :

    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Configured Screen Device"
    Device "Configured Video Device"
    SubSection "Display"
    Modes "1920x1200"
    Virtual 1920 1200
    EndSubSection
    EndSection

    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Configured Video Device"
    EndSection

Can anybody please offer some assistance ?
