When you clicked on the Print button a window should have appeared that showed the printer and the print to file option.
Are you sure you highlighted the printer?

The HP Linux printer project page shows that printer is supported.
The driver is automatically installed and the printer should work. Have you also tried a reboot after the driver installed? Sometimes the driver isn't picked up until you reboot.

I also recommend opening up Synaptic and doing a search for hplip.
Install hplip and hplip-gui for a nice graphical interface that shows your print jobs and ink levels.

Tried installing it manually and the box claims that the printer was not detected (in this case, though connected via USB, the command installer(hp-config,or hp-setup(whichever command it was-can't remember for sure)))

Tried the automated install:auto detection and it was indeed but the test page it was supposed to print did not print at all!
The reboot option didn't work either.
Is there something I'm not doing?
