Unhappy n00b needs help with the headache of getting WoW to work in WINE.

I recently became a Linux user, and I have been struggling with how-tos and forums on how to install World of Warcraft successfully on WINE in Ubuntu. I have the latest version of Karmic Ubuntu. I also had the latest version of WINE from the website and had it configured to XP.

It took three days of hassle but I figured out how to create a static IP and open the necessary ports on my router. Now when I try to install WoW, it says I don't have enough disk space... in reality I have around 140G left for use. So I uninstalled WINE, installed WINE again, uninstalled again, and installed Playonlinux, which I guess is WINE also but is different? Whatever, it still does not work. I have a locked WoW file in my "C" drive that I should probably get rid of. It may be part of the problem, since it isn't the actual working game file. I do not know how to get to it to get rid of it through the terminal since it is on a 'fake' drive. I attempted a WINE downgrade to 1.1.26, but I haven't gone through with it because I need Xfree86 or Xlib and I figured I would get some pros to suggest some strategies before I go any further. I would rather use terminal command lines, but if you would, please explain thoroughly.

    Thanks

if you don't have much to lose, if you delete the .wine directory in your home dir, then run the winecfg command, it will recreate and you can start fresh

other than that, how are you trying to install? you using the net installer or cd's? I think the net installer was what i used last time i did it, but this was over a year ago

you sure your /home has enough space?

Also I've tried to completely get rid of WINE on my system, but it won't go away fully. The padlocked WoW file is still there as are the itunes files I have been trying to delete. The 'uninstall' for WINE just won't get rid of my files.

like I said, if you want to clean your wine, you have to remove the .wine folder from your user folder, wine will recreate a new one after when you run winecfg

to find out disk space, run df -h command in terminal and post results
