I was just wondering how to install Kate on ubuntu 9.10
I attempted the usual:
sudo apt-get install kate
the terminal then outpts that it cannot find the package. I thought maybe it was "Kate" or "KATE" but neither work

I'm not sure about Ubuntu, but in Arch the kate package is named: kdesdk-kate
Hope it works for you!

You probably need to setup your repos, and/or update the packages list.
I'd recommend using Synaptic to install packages under Ubuntu if you haven't already tried it. Here's a nice HowTo that you can use to get started:

Keep in mind that Kate is a native application for KDE, so if you are currently running Gnome on Ubuntu, installing Kate will likely pull in lots of KDE libraries, and other dependencies.

I just installed linux, and for some reason when I installed my wireless card the first terminal I had open did not gain internet access. I realized it because I couldn't ping google on the first terminal i opened but if i opened a new one it would work just fine. now that I opened a new one and ran another update everything seems to be working.
I havne't tried the KDE set up on ubuntu yet... I think i just may install it right now

You might want to consider Kubuntu if you don't want to mix Gnome and KDE, but then there are lots of users that install KDE to their Ubuntu setups. It's just another option for you to consider, and best of luck with it either way.
