Strange desktop startup
I am now running Xubuntu with Compiz and Emerald. It looks very smart and still uses very little resources, but... When I log in, the panel and task bar are in the wrong place!
Another but... after about 1 minute, they switch around to be correct way around. This is strange because I have never changed the position of these (panel at the top, task bar at the bottom).
It must be Compiz that did it because I had Emerald for a couple of days before that.
Does anyone know how to stop this happening? The only problem it causes is that you cannot click the Applications menu until the panel has moved back to the top...
Thanks,
S

Seriously, has nobody had this after installing Compiz?
Everything is perfect apart from this which looks a little stupid and you can't actually use the OS properly until it has sorted itself. I have noticed that it does not sort itself out until you click around a bit and get angry!

If you are still looking for a solution, try running compiz in a terminal so you can see any juicy and extra helpful verbose output!

Ok, so I am reviving this thread because things have changed a bit. I tried many things to stop my panel switching around and acting strange on boot up. I tried some things which I didn't think would work like installing gnome and some reconfiguration commands.
Strangely, gnome kind of fixed the problem, but I had a slightly different menu, but everything essentially worked fine and compiz was still running.
After a few days now, something strange has happened again - I now seem to have 2 panels, one on top of the other and because they are translucent, I can see one behind the other!
I think that xcfe4 updated recently and had fixed itself (meanwhile I had been using gnome?). Now I have 2 similar looking panels layered and I would really like to just have my original xcfe4 one and not the other.
Is there a good way to remove gnome and keep xcfe4? If I go into Synaptic and try and remove some gnome stuff, it says it will remove xubuntu desktop.
This sounds a bit like it could remove more than I want? Help!
