Can't Install Ubuntu 10.04
On at least 5 occasions I burned CDs of the above operating system. When I booted off them, I got an error message. Please see image. On this computer I am currently running Ubuntu 9.10 without any problems. I tried the CD on my wife's computer there were no error message. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There is a bug report for the problem. This suggests the alternate installation CD might work.
Alternate installer is available from this page, third option down.

Thanks for the help. The menu came right up without errors. The only thing, I don't see the option for running it off the CD. 9.10 is working so good I am hesitant to remove it.

The alternate disc is installation only, you won't be able to run it off the CD.

Thanks,
Other than not being able to run it off the CD, is it the same?
Also, Maybe you can explain to me what is going on.
Does the regular install work with some computers, and not others,
If so, why?

All I know is what is in that bug report.
This post seems to be the most telling
Ubiquity is Ubuntu's live CD installer. Udisks is the new replacement for HAL, taking over managing disks and storage devices. DBus is a communications daemon so different applications and the kernel and whatnot can communicate with each other.japro's issue appears to be udisks' hitting the dbus timeout on a call to its inhibit method:
Inhibit all polling failed: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
As ubiquity is wrapped by udisks --inhibit, it fails along with it.
The alternate installer is different, pretty much just the debian installer, I believe. I don't know too much about it, but I've never had a problem with the Debian installer on any system. I imagine primarily it's less complex, and therefore less opportunity for bugs.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I am sorry for my ignorance in this matter.
Once installed, will the Alternate installation look and behave like the original one?
Thanks

No worries. The only difference should be in the installer. Everything else ought to be the same. (Well, you may have the option to not do a full install. I believe projects like Crunchbang, before they switched to a Debian base, started from the alternate installer and built up from a minimum install.)
