[SOLVED] Ubuntu 10.04 install error
I tried to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my other laptop there.
It did have windows Vista on it, but I fully formatted the drive and installed Ubuntu solely on it..
However when it had got to the stage where it restarts (you press the restart button when prompted)
I got this error
[1399.450021] end_request: I/Oerror: devSr0, sector 505448
[***There was loads of other numbers here***] end_request: I/Oerror: devSr0, sector (and loads of numbers here too)
I just jotted down one of the lines..
When I hit return it did restart.. I then got
Out of Disk
grub recovery>
and it was waiting for some commands
Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance Mark

Hi and Welcome !
Its a I/O error. Was installation successful? Did installer throw any error during installation?
I would suggest you to check your Hard disk using Disk tool provided by your Hard disk manufacturer. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Literally just after it had installed i said I got this error
[1399.450021] end_request: I/Oerror: devSr0, sector 505448
[***There was loads of other numbers here***] end_request: I/Oerror: devSr0, sector (and loads of numbers here too)
That was the only error I got

Well, /dev/sr0 is your CD/DVD device. I think what devils casper was wondering is, since the error happened as you were shutting down the machine from the Live CD, did the installation succeed? Are you able to boot into Ubuntu from the harddrive installation now?
Failing that, I've had some ornery CD drives that for some reason had trouble running a Live CD, but had no difficulty running and installing from a Live USB, if your BIOS supports booting from a USB drive.

Ohhh apologies to Devils Casper misunderstood you..
Emm no I couldn't boot in I kept getting a grub recovery> prompt
However I have since resolved the issue. My / partition was 230GB in size and 20 GB for swap.. lol.. I just partitioned it again correctly and is now working perfect.
Thanks though guys

1GB SWAP and 10+GB for / partition is enough for Ubuntu Desktop user.
Anyways, I am glad that you have sorted out your problem. Do start a new thread if you have any other question. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
