Kernel missing after partial update Ubuntu 9.10
Ok, I messed up and hit "ok" for a partial upgrade. My fault entirely.
Now Grub finds no kernel to boot to, only a disk diagnostic test runs when I try to boot.
Is there a way to reload a kernel to dev/sha1 from the live cd terminal?
I'd rather not lose the data on the drive with a fresh install if I don't have to.
Thanks much!

Hi and Welcome !
Check the contents of /boot folder. Isn't there any earlier kernel version?
Did you upgrade from 9.10 to latest 10.04 or just did a regular update of 9.10?
Mount /boot partition in LiveCD and post the output of ls command here.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Partial upgrade has messed up everything and I don't think there is a way to fix this problem because kernel is gone.
I would suggest you to backup data using LiveCD and re-install.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
