Audio tape to Mp3? Is one program really good to use?
Hi there,
I would like to convert an audio tape to a digital format and am not too sure which program to use. A friend of mine told me to use Audobe Audition, but I'm not aware of that working on Linux which I have recently converted to. Ubuntu to be exact. I have a tape recorder all ready to go and the stereo cable connected to the earphone jack on the recroder and the other end in my input jack on my computer, but now I'm not too sure which program to use. Any suggestions? And is there anything special I need to do to have the tape recorder's feed run directly into the program aside from plugging the cable into the two jacks I already have?
Thanks for any and all thoughts and suggestions.

Hi and welcome to the forums.
You can use a program called Audacity which can be found here;
Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
Audacity has extra features that allows you to edit the music, cut sections, equalize or even remix a song. I have used it in the past with some degree of success but haven't tried it for several updates so it may work better then when I tried it.
You can also use the simple Gnome sound recorder.
Here is a page that explains how to set it up and use it.

Worked almost perfectly, I'm just goingto play around with the settings to improve the sound quality, but it might just be the tape.
Thanks for all of your help.
