Samsung ML-1740 driver breaks sudo in Lucid Lynx

I'm having a problem with the Samsung Linux driver for the ML-1740. It worked fine on Karmic Koala (64-bit AMD), but with Lucid Lynx (64-bit AMD)...

    1) It breaks sudo after I install it. I get "permission denied" although the permissions on /etc/sudoers haven't changed and root is still owner. I also can't edit the file with visudo, i get the same error. (I can copy the file and read it, and it hasn't changed.) The Administration > Users and Groups app no longer works, I get an "unknown error" message. The only fix I've been able to come up with is reinstalling Ubuntu.

    2) The printer isn't recognized. The installed Samsung app cannot find it at all. It shows up in the Ubuntu Administration > Printing app, but nothing happens when I try to print a test page.

So...is there any easier way to fix a broken sudo than reinstalling Ubuntu? And what is the best way to get this printer recognized in Lucid Lynx?

    Problem solved by reinstalling CUPS

FIXED. Lucid Lynx has a ML-1740 driver (unlike Karmic Koala). But CUPS wasn't connecting to the server. After removing and reinstalling cupsys, I can print fine. So I don't need the Samsung drivers now.

sudo apt-get remove --purge cupsys cupsys-client
    sudo apt-get install cupsys cupsys-client
