    Exclamation Ubuntu black screen

    Hi everyone,

I tried to install Ubuntu for the first time to a Hp workstation Intel Xeon E5520 with 8GB RAM. The ubuntu version is 10.04 for amd64 since I read from a forum that this computer can handle. Now I'll explain detailly what I have done.

I tried the installation using a cd which I burned the ubuntu image. After booting from cd and selecting install ubuntu from screen, screen went black but computer was still reading the cd. Then after waiting a huge amount of time I decided to eject the cd and shut down the computer manually.

Then after starting the computer it went to windows and I tried installing with wubi. Wubi installed sth and after reboot I chose Ubuntu from the list. The screen went black again but I think the installation took place this time. After rebooting again I chose Ubuntu then from grub list I chose the normal Ubuntu not recovery mode. I heard the staring sound. But still black screen and ctrl+alt+f1 or anything doesnt work.
I read somewhere about editing xorg.conf file may solve the issue but since I cannot open command prompt I couldnt achieve that.

After such a long explanation, can anyone help me about solving this blank / black screen issue.

    Thanks.

    Hi and Welcome !

Which Graphics Card do you have? It looks like Graphics Card problem only.

I don't have any experience in Wubi install but if you have installed Ubuntu in separate partition, I can suggest you a few workarounds.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Hi,
The computer has NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 Display adapter. Ubuntu is not installed on a separate partition, it is on C drive.

    Thanks.
