Unhappy Slow downloads, freezing up and sound problems

    Hi !

I used to have Windows XP on my desktop computer which was changed to Linux 9.10 awhile back and just recently I downloaded Linux 10.04. I am having problems with my screen while viewing websites and games I play freezing up. I have also noticed that it is very slow at times downloading sites I wish to view. The sound on videos and games comes and goes. I thought by upgrading to Linux 10.04 would fix the problems, but it has not. Sorry, I am not a computer expert, so I do not know what other information you might need in order to help me solve these problems.

    Thank you...

When you fall over the bleeding edge (10.04 just was released a week or so ago), you can expect some problems. Updates may help. Reporting problems to the Ubuntu bug site may help get them resolved. The Ubuntu user forums may have some tips to fix these problems, or posting your problems there may elicit some helpful responses.

If your problems pre-existed with 9.10 and have not been significantly altered by upgrading to 10.04, then there are a couple of other questions to ask.

    1. Are these Windows games (run under Wine, for example)?
    2. How much memory (physical RAM) do you have in your system?
    3. What kind/speed of disc do you have (ATA vs. Sata)?
    4. When these slow-downs occur, what other things are you doing? Are you moving/copying/downloading other files? Do you have other cpu-intensive applications (like your games) that you are running?
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!

    Hi and Welcome !

Post the output of these commands :
    Code:
    lspci | grep -i vga
    free
    df -h
    sudo hwinfo
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
