    Install problem!

    New to linux, well ish.

Have installed and succesfully run Xubuntu, Ubuntu and Opensuse on three seperate computers, but when trying to install Xubuntu on my personal PC using Lucid Lynx alternate install disc, my computers frozen out.

I'm running a basic dell tower, 2gb ddr2 ram, intel celeron 3ghz processor, 250gb hard drive, and on bootup BIOS screen runs, then straight to black screen with blinking cursor, with nothing beforehand. totally stuck.

    Hi and Welcome !

Have you tried different LiveCDs? Are you that Display is working?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Is this freeze from trying to boot the CD or after an install it refuses to reboot?

freezes whenever i try to boot from a livecd. installed from a livecd, then reformatted and tried the alternate install disc, that freezes on boot as well.

Whenever i try to boot using anything now, ubuntu, opensuse, windows, the same thing happens.

check to make sure cdrom is working properly. make sure bios is still setup correctly as far as boot options and that your cdrom is still detected.

If it's no longer booting from CDs that it used to, than I also vote that the CD drive has likely gone bad.
