    Ubuntu CD won't boot

I've been trying to install Ubuntu 10.04, but whenever I load up the live CD, it gets to the loading screen only. When it finishes loading (dots all go red and stay red) the screen stays for a few seconds only, then it all goes blank. The monitor searches for a signal for about 15 seconds then turns off. There's no HDD or optical drive activity, and I have to reboot the computer.

    I'm running:

AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition
    XFX Radeon HD5770 1GB
    4GB DDR3
    ASUS M4A89GTD Pro Mobo
    500GB SATA II HDD
    Windows 7 Ultimate

    Any ideas?

First thing that pops into mind is the ISO download may have been corrupt. Try and burn a new copy and see if that helps at all. Checking the md5sum to make sure. Not sure how to check that in Windows though.

This is usually a graphics card not being detected correctly. Those who experience this can often install from the alternate CD.

Graphics issues are easier to fix after installation; often using the Hardware Drivers application to install the recommended drivers is all that's needed.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

    HI and Welcome !

I agree with elija. Its a Graphics Card problem only. LiveCD is not configuring your Graphics Card correctly. Try Ubuntu Alternate Installation CD. It has text based installer and it works fine with all Graphics Cards.

As elija mentioned already, its really easy to fix Graphics problem after successful installation.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Thanks guys. I've got the alternate torrent queued

Seems strange that when I first put the computer together, the livecd worked fine (I was using gparted to set up some partitions because I already had data on the HDD). After I installed windows the livecd stopped working.
