    Harddisk problem

    Hi,

I've just installed ubuntu, and after installation it displays a warning that there are problems with my harddisks.

I've got two hard disk in my pc.

    For the first it says:

    Disk has many bad sectors.

    Reallocated sector count.
Count of remapped sectors. When the hard drive finds read/write/verification error, it marks the sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area).

    For the second it says:

    Disk failure is imminent.

    Uncorrectable sector count.
The total number of uncorrectable errors when reading/writing a sector. A rise in the value of this attribute indicates defects of the disk surface and/or problems in the mechanical subsystem.

I'm also getting this error message when trying to open it:

    See the attached screenshot

    Thanks

    Hi,
both discs are about to fail, as the warnings indicate.

Safe whatever data is on them *now*,
then replace the discs with new ones.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.

    Hello and welcome!

I'd recommend backing up to preserve your data just to be on the safe side, then using the diagnostics tools provided by your hardware manufacturer(s) to determine if there really are any problems. If their tool shows any problems, check their warranty policy because your drives might still be covered. If their tool shows no issues, you can probably ignore the error messages.
