USB flash Disks not working in Ubuntu 10.04

After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04 my USB flash disks no longer work properly. Some of them I cannot see at all. Others like my Kingston show up as Kingston & USB0 at the same time. I can see the files, but I cannot copy any files to the flash disk. When I try to unmount I get a popup window saying:

    "unable to mount USB0.
/media/USB0 is not in the fstab (and you are not root)".

If I try to eject or safely remove the disk by clicking on the Kingston icon, I get the following:

    Unable to stop drive
One or more partitions are busy on /dev/sdb

The only usb device that seems to work properly is my USB wireless dongle. My Samsung 1TB external drive works, but it appears as Samsung and USB1. If I click on Samsung, I cannot see anything. When I click on USB1, I see the files. This is a very annoying problem as I use my flash disks extensively. Any ideas? Would really appreciate any help.

    Thank you in advance

What size flash drive is it? If its over 4 gig, some hardware has trouble detecting it. I know our proliant DL360 and DL380 G5 machines had difficulty with the 16gig flash drives. It may not be the OS
