    Ubuntu and PiTivi

I have ubuntu 10.04 on my computers and I was checking out the new pitivi video editing software. It seems pretty nice compared to some things I've seen in the past and seems to function well. The problem I'm having is that I don't know what file format it is exporting or "rendering".

I tried to put an .mpg extension on it and upload it to youtube, but that just produced random colors and chaos. It also puts a black border around the video even though I uncheck the border option. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has run into the file format thing. I have searched google for a long while now with no explanations on the matter.

Maybe there are codecs that I need to download in order to "render" certain video formats? Or maybe I'm just missing something obvious and thats why I can't find any info on it?

If you happen to know about it and have a few moments I would really appreciate your response. Thanks, I hope this is an appropriate forum for this post.

Ok, so I can change the codecs when I export, but I still can't get a high quality mpeg. This is probably because I don't know which mpeg codec to use and what settings I should adjust so if anyone knows of a website or a PiTivi forum I would appreciate a point in the right direction.

I have done video editing before, but it was in Finul Cut Express and iMovie on the mac and it sort of took care of a lot of those settings for you....

Anyway, any info would be appreciated thanks.
