    thumb drive

    I just installed ubuntu in my laptop last week. With ms os , i can just plug in a thumb drive and access the content in it. When i plug in the thumb drive into the ubuntu laptop , nothing happens.
    i have 2 questions here.
    [1] how can i access the thumb drive ?
    [2] my friend's has a XP pc , he has copied something into a thumb drive.
    will i be able to read the content from my ubuntu laptop ?

    Its the same in Ubuntu too, just plug and play

    but maybe some other issue is there.
    After connecting the thumb drive, open a terminal and type dmesg | tail -n 30
    Post back the output given.

    Which version of Ubuntu are you using?
    Plug-in thumb drive, open Terminal and execute this
    Code:
    tail -s 3 -f /var/log/messages
    df -h
    Post output here.

    If there isn't any problem with thumb drive then you can access it contents in Ubuntu without any problem.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
