GRUB doesn't start, computer keeps restarting
Please help me with a problem with dual boot: Windows 7 and Kubuntu 10.04 on separate HD partitions. I have three partitions: /boot, /root and swap .
I donno why but after several boots somehow GRUB gets corrupted or something so that when i restart the laptop, it displays "Grub 2 loading..." and restarts again. This seems to go on in an infinite loop, restarting the machine again and again trying to load grub.
When I re-install grub, everything is fine (I am able to see the Grub menu of ubuntu and windows and able to boot into both) .
I am using a Dell vostro 1320 .

How many times have you had this issue and what version of grub are you using? The default one that's loaded with Ubuntu 10.04? Have you tried an older version of grub?

Your answer is not clear. Must know if you boot only into linux if it works ? And have problem after booting into Win 7 ?yes Lostfarmer , I did that and still the same result .
If it only stops working once you boot into Win 7 then there is a Dell program that needs to be uninstalled (do not remember name) or install grub to the linix partition.
If you install grub to the linix partition, you will have to use --force
1) partition must be primary not a logical volume
2) linux partition must be marked Active
3) MS boot code or generic boot code written to MBR.
OR likely best
1) i nstall MS/generic boot code to MBR
2) Make Win 7 partition Active
3) use 'easybcd' , google for it. ( I think it works with Win 7)

If I boot only into windows it works correctly , but If I boot into both windows and Linux , after serveral times it wont work anymore
I installed grub into an ext4 logical partition (I didnt want it to be in root partition)
by these information I still haveto test the
1) install MS/generic boot code to MBR
2) Make Win 7 partition Active
3) use 'easybcd' , google for it. ( I think it works with Win 7)
steps ?
and about easybcd I googled for it ,and yes it works for Vista/7 .

try grub4dos. this will solve your issues I think. you will have to do the fixmbr and fixboot from your windows cd first.
