I realise this may be a silly question, but until yesterday I didn't think it was possible to run any windows based programs on Linux. So my question is this if I can use an app like wine to run a windows version of utorrent can I also run a game like call of duty 4 too? And if not with wine then is there another app that will allow me to? thanks

The simple answer is you might be able to run it. Have a look at WineHQ - Wine Application Database

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

    This would suggest you can:

thanks for the help iam really happy that i can do that now that means that I can dump win7 ultimate off a bridge. i can't believe how much quicker ubuntu is over windows. i can't understand why there would be such a diference in performance firefox gets soo many "not responding" whiteouts its a real pain in the ***. man if only people could get past the "if it's free it can't be that good attitude" the only complaint i have is that having to make and compile things is confusing and now i find that gentoo linux can cover that aspect of things. And the biggest thing i can't get my head around is the fact i don't need and antivirus except for being considerate of people i send things to that use windows, a very odd feeling indeed

I can't guarantee that it will work well - I'm not a gamer and I haven't tried it. But hooray if you can dump Windows. Bill doesn't really need your money, you know.

COD4 MW runs pretty well in Linux with wine/crossover games. There is a slight fps hit, but nothing major. Just know that Punk Buster won't work in Mutilplayer, so if you need to join a punkbuster server, you need to stay on windows
