    Nvidia missing correct resolution

My HP Laptop screen is 18.4 in diameter and the only two resolutions that work are the highest a 1920x1080 which is too small for me or 1360x768 which is perfect. That res is no longer available in the latest Nvidia driver.

    Now what? Help please.

    Hello and welcome!

Most LCD screens look and work best with a certain resolution as specified by the product manufacturer. If you know what that resolution is, that is the one you should try to stick with if possible even if it means using larger or small fonts and icons. Is that particular resolution no longer available to you?

You can always configure your UI to use bigger fonts. It is HIGHLY recommended to use the highest resolution your monitor is capable of.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

In the list of available resolution settings. I went with Linux Mint which offers the older driver (173) because the new 195 no longer has it.

    Hi and Welcome !

You can try to add new resolution manually. Post the contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf file here.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Why is it so highly recommended to use the highest resolution? I'm using Mint with my resolution but it snaps into a sudden logout when I go near the top or bottom of my screen. The software manager turns dark and freezes every time. People rave about Mint but is my resolution causing these problems? It even does it in VMware on Windows 7. Strange.

you can use the nvidia-xconfig -mode option to add resolutions.

    open terminal as root
nvidia-xconfig -mode "add your needed resolution here"
    then reboot.
