Laptop overheating in Ubuntu (Please help!)
My laptop is an Acer Travelmate 7530G, it runs an AMC Athlon X2 64 2.1Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM and an ATI Radeon HD3470 Hybrid X2 512MB.
In Ubuntu (all versions) the temperature sensor goes up to around 99C and apparently sometimes reaches up to 109C !
The laptop itself gets very hot (as one would imagine), and the fan is on highest constantly.
But in windows this problem is not present.
Can anyone help identify/solve this problem?

If you tried linux and windows in the same situation, with the air flowing freely from the bottom of the laptop (as I'm sure you did),
You may check if some process is not running away in your ubuntu. The command
$ top
or a system monitor utility may help (on gnome is apt-get install gnome-system-monitor)
Searching a bit, you may also try to install the latest ati graphics driver.
Also make sure acpi is on (also check the bios)
You may also try to run ubuntu from a live CD (a desktop install CD will do), and see if the overheating also happens.
Regards
Luis
