    Hello and Welcome.
If nothing else will work, a friendly reboot should straighten things out bit. Did you use sudo command when you tried to restart nm-applet

    Welcome to LinuxForums!

Try adding to the Panel. I don't run standard Ubuntu, but in Mint, I can just add the 'Notification Icon' and get it back.

Talking Thingy at top of screen...!!!

The applet at the top of the page, that gives information and access to the network online, is most likely what is being referred to here, unless I miss my guess.

I to am missing this applet. I don't know what I did to make it go away, but it was purely accidental, and I would like it back again. I have tried a lot of things, but to no avail. If anyone has a secret to making this happen, there may be a lot of us that need this information.

I am just learning Linux, specifically Ubuntu, so I need a lot of patience and understanding. It still beats that other Windows type program hands down, which we won't mention. MS would like me to mention it, but I won't.... Joe
