Sound stopped working - Ubuntu 10.04

Hey, so I was watching a film in VLC media player and the sound just stopped..

Cant seem to figure out why though..



Any ideas???

hmm, ive noticed some sound instability with 10.04 recently also (10.10 beta makes headphones work properly although completely unusable!) but any time my sound cuts on 10.04 its from reboot and it seems to not refresh the soundcard list, first ide try rebooting then sound preferences and see if its exporting sound to something like "dummy audio" or something evidently not your soundcard and try selecting different outputs?

this sound cut happens every 4-5 boots for me, a quick reboot and card selection fixes it, hopefully for you too! xD
