    Directory not UID1000 writable

    Just installed clamav on 10.04 which also has KDE frontend(klamav). Will not allow
    virus definition update because of above subject error message. Assume this is a chown
    issue but would appreciate confirmation as to exact remedy required.

    /var/lib/clamav
    uid 1000 is the default user (yourself) and it is perfectly fine that you cannot update the virus definitions. if your system would be compromised (i.e. some kind of code run through a security hole in your browser), one could flush the virus definitions and you would never become aware of a virus. instead a authorized user should update these, which indeed can be done by a cronjob owned by root or another system user of your choice.
