Trying to run ubuntu off a USB...some help?

Let me preface this by saying I have minimal background in linux. I have an imac that is my main computer but I just acquired an Acer aspire one netbook. I would like to load Ubuntu netbook remix onto it.

As I understand, the easiest way to do this is to create a USB with ubuntu netbook remix on it to do the install.

I cant for the life of me figure out how to convert the USB so that it will suit my purposes. I'm quite lost.

Keeping in mind I am working on a MAC, how do I go about mounting the ubuntu .iso to the USB so I can then use the USB on the netbook to install Ubuntu.

My sincere apologies for my lack of technical knowledge. Everyone starts somewhere though!

If you are talking about a USB "pen", be aware that unless you have a very fast one, any OS there will run a bit slow. It may be obvious to you, just that on a HDD linux will be much faster

For test or repair its ok. I use a 15MB/s read USB with 10.04 desktop installed and it runs quite well (no swap, on a 2GB ram machine).

    Regards
    Luis

I think OP only needs USB drive to perform installation on machine without CDROM or floppy

Ahh, sorry, I see it now.

With ubuntu, I've done that (putting the install cd on a pen) using usb-creator. Hope coopstah13 links may help you doing it with your mac.

    Enjoy
    Luis
