Need help integrating Samba into Windows AD.
So I have the task of integrating our businesses first Linux server into the network.
My success or failure in this project will determine whether we use more linux in the future or scrap linux and continue using microsoft products.
This Server is running Ubuntu 9.01 loaded with Samba and Likewise-Open.
This server must be able to join the domain for the shares to be established.
Your mission, should you chose to accept is to help me establish a samba shared folder on the network available to all Microsoft users.
I joined the domain successfully according to the server however I cannot see the Ubuntu machine on the network. I can ping it but something is wrong.
Where should I start looking to find out what is broken?

Here is the Wbinfo and Smbclient info:
(Everything seems to be in order)

Domain Name.
Also, I am pretty sure the domain name that Ubuntu wants is: KMLSDC1.KMLS.COM but I would like to know for sure. Is there a place I can go to know for sure either in Ubuntu or my windows server?

I can definitely see why Linux is less popular than windows, aside from the steeper learning curve. If you are the only admin who is on the project and you get stuck you pretty much only have the forums and It's very difficult to find a forum where people will offer advice.

Samba and AD don't integrate too well on the server side. Apparently, the next version of samba will.
More to do with M$ and not being open.
Samba and old nt4 domains work fine.
Have you looked at the samba website?

Ubuntu AD Integration.
Yeah, I have followed the Samba documentation.
I have gotten this working before, users were able to access the share. For some reason out of no where (And for no apparent reason) The share stopped showing up in windows explorer. I can't find where the error is.

Just a quick thought - not run windows networking for a while.
Have you set the samba server up with a fixed ip address?
If so, add it to the dns server which, I guess, is running on windows AD server.

DNS Entry.
That's a good idea. I will try that. I will be back with the results.

Another thing, if you can find the share using the server's ip address, it's a domain name problem.
I think the windows syntax is \\ipaddress\sharename (like I said, not used widows for a while, though I used to do win admin. Now only use windows when I have to and run a purely linux network.)

Navigating the share via IP.
So how do you suggest I search for the share via IP?
If I type the IP into windows explorer it brings up firefox to look for the address as if it were public.
