Major problems installing windows 7
I have been trying to uninstall linux mint from my hp mini netbook and reinstall windows 7 since about seven months ago (Yes, you heard me right.) I obviously gave up a while ago and have now returned to the problem. I had previously posted in the linux mint forums asking for help but I remember that nothing I tried or that they suggested really seemed to help.
That brings me to what I actually know about the problem. All I can say is NOT much. I have forgotten a lot of what happened before the problem. All I know is that whenever I try to boot windows 7 from my usb drive (which used to always work flawlessly), Now it kind of just freezes my netbook at the bios even though usb boot is selected as 1st. I have no clue whether the problem has to do with the MBR, GRUB, or some other nameless affliction, but I desperately want to get this done and over with. I need my computer with windows back. I don't care if I have to completely nuke my drive if it will let windows install and run on it.
Linux mint has been a nice OS but these uninstallation and installation conflicts with windows have turned me away so completely and utterly that I will likely never return to Linux again unless I feel like being masochistic or losing windows functionability. (Linux distributions will install from usb, not windows however.) So let my close my story by giving out a cry for help. If ANYTHING will allow my netbook to run windows, I'll do it (save buying a new hard drive which I have been seriously considering.) I have no problem with linux distributions themselves. They are fine and functional, but I have since realized that windows fulfills all my needs just fine and with less hassle, much of this including learning the ins and outs of linux. Please help me gain control of my netbook again, I have certainly learned my lesson and will not experiment with different distributions again.

Hello and Welcome to the forums juantendo8!
Ok....I have been trying to uninstall linux mint from my hp mini netbook and reinstall windows 7 since about seven months ago (Yes, you heard me right.) I obviously gave up a while ago and have now returned to the problem. I had previously posted in the linux mint forums asking for help but I remember that nothing I tried or that they suggested really seemed to help.
OK...in that case, you can execute this in the Mint terminal (Please back-up all important data)That brings me to what I actually know about the problem. All I can say is NOT much. I have forgotten a lot of what happened before the problem. All I know is that whenever I try to boot windows 7 from my usb drive (which used to always work flawlessly), Now it kind of just freezes my netbook at the bios even though usb boot is selected as 1st. $ sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=512
Linux mint has been a nice OS but these uninstallation and installation conflicts with windows have turned me away so completely and utterly that I will likely never return to Linux again unless I feel like being masochistic or losing windows functionability.
After you have excuted the above...you can make a fresh install of your windows already.(Linux distributions will install from usb, not windows however.) So let my close my story by giving out a cry for help. If ANYTHING will allow my netbook to run windows, I'll do it (save buying a new hard drive which I have been seriously considering.)
I guess it really takes a little patience to learn the "ins and outs" of linux. You cannot imagine the frustration I had several months ago when I was starting. Good the people in this forums patiently mentored meI have no problem with linux distributions themselves. They are fine and functional, but I have since realized that windows fulfills all my needs just fine and with less hassle, much of this including learning the ins and outs of linux. Good luck to you

Thank you so much for your input. Hopefully this will fix the problem completely. I apologize if my comments and rant came off as rude and bitter. I just sent in my main laptop to get a burnt out fan replaced and I was forced to return to this netbook as it is my only other computer. I needed to use some windows only apps and I was incredibly frustrated when I remembered the reason that I had stopped using this netbook in the first place. I had just started getting the hang of Linux when I ran into this problem seven months ago. Once again I thank you, and if this helps, maybe just maybe I'll consider dual-booting some Linux distro with windows. (Although I'll most likely have to take Linux 101 again.
