I have been researching this issue for about a week and I can't seem to find a solution to my problem. Maybe someone here can help? Basically, I have a Dell Dimension 8400 that I use for performing data recovery and virus removal on customer hard drive. I decided to use Ubuntu over Windows because if felt like that was the better choice. I went with Ubuntu because I have used that off and on over the last few years, and from what it seems, it's popular, which to me, seems like there would be quite a bit of online support for issues on forums, blogs, articles, etc.

The problem I have is that data transfer is very slow. Transferring the data from one sata drive to another takes a very long time. The transfer rate is usually around 1.0 MB / sec. After doing a lot of research on this problem, from what I conclude, it seems that this has been an ongoing issue with Ubuntu for a few years now. And no one to this date has a solution. I have a thread on the Ubuntu Forums. Why Are Internal Sata Hard Drive Data Transfer Speeds Slow in Ubuntu - Ubuntu Forums[/url] if anyone wants to glance at it. But the main thing I would like to do is two things: 1.) either figure out a way to increase data transfer speed with Ubuntu, or.. 2: Install a different brand of linux that's more suited for doing data transfer.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advanced for your help.
