    Question Unable to shutdown properly

    Hi,

    I am unable to shutdown the ubuntu system properly.
    As i click the logout button, the desktop icons and taskbar and everything disappears and only i can see the wall paper...
    Then i hav to do a hard shutdown by pressing the power button...

    Pls help me to solve this issue..

    If you are using "logout" rather than "turn off", that may be your problem. On my system I am presented with 4 options, with "turn off computer" and "logout user" being 2 of the choices. As I understand it, "Logout" just closes the logged on users desktop, but leaves linux running waiting for the next user to log in. "Shutdown computer" or "Turn off computer" is what you are looking for.

    Hi masontx,

    I understand wat u say.

    But when i click the red coloured button or icon given to get the options to shutdown..., all the icons and taskbar disappears leaving the empty desktop...
