    Unable to install downloaded program

    I am new to Ubuntu and am in the process of moving all my data from Windows to Ubuntu. So far everything has gone well and I am very impressed with Ubuntu and regret not doing this years ago.

    One program is giving problems. It is a program called Sharescope and I pay a subscription for it and it runs in my Windows partition. I downloaded Wine and then downloaded Sharescope three times but when I click to install it comes up with the following message;

    Archive: /home/johnlaptop/Downloads/SSGoldFull(3).EXE
    [/home/johnlaptop/Downloads/SSGoldFull(3).EXE]
    End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
    a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
    latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
    the last disk(s) of this archive.
    zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/johnlaptop/Downloads/SSGoldFull(3).EXE or
    /home/johnlaptop/Downloads/SSGoldFull(3).EXE.zip, and cannot find /home/johnlaptop/Downloads/SSGoldFull(3).EXE.ZIP, period.

    I contacted Sharescope and they said it was a permission issue in Ubuntu. Is there any way to install this program or will I have to work with it in Windows?

    I am not a computer expert so any solution needs to be fairly simple. I will be grateful for any advise on how to resolve this.

    1) You could run Windows XP inside Linux using virtualisation e.g. Virtualbox

    2) It seems to run in Crossover for Linux. This is a commerical package akin ti Wine, which you must pay for. Have a look at Compatibility - ShareScope - CodeWeavers

    Thanks for the advise. I have gone into Crossover and tried to download a version but that has run into a problem with the download and I am waiting for some support response. It looks like it will work eventually if and when I can get it installed.

    Nothing seems to be easy but I think I am getting nearer to a fix.

    This is just to confirm that I have downloaded Crossover and then downloaded ShareScope and it looks like the problem is solved. The font in Crossover looks a bit odd but the program works fine.

    Thanks for the information on how to solve this problem.
