Question Determining current on-board video hardware to install Ubuntu 10.4

I am getting ready to move from Ubuntu 8.04 to 10.4, but my VIA C7 motherboard must have an unusual video chipset. By random accident I got higher then VGA resolution with Ubuntu 8.04, but I don't know with 10.4 how this will work out. 8.04 did not correctly autosense, but through reloading
3 or more times, somehow the higher resolution I wanted 'just happened'. What's holding me back is I don't know how things will go with 10.4, without knowing what the current setup thinks is the chipset in the box (which is actually working at high resolution). So I'm looking for guidance on how to proceed...

    Thanks,

If you got it working by editting the org.conf file, then you can just copy that over to the new install. Other than that, you'll probably have to fiddle with things to make it work as before.

    Thanks,

/etc/X11/xorg.conf if it exists at all. Some distros work fine without it.
