Sorry You got the Neanderthal to answer.

Since no one is responding. I'll throw in my uneducated 2 cents. My post might not be relevant in your case, I know.

I run AntiX 8.5 on 2 SSDs on my Asus EEEPC 900 4gig/16gig. Mepis installer has no way of recognizing 2nd drive when installing home so home had to go 4 gig SSD on install. I then had to make another /home folder on the 16gig drive and symlink /home on the 4 gig drive to the /home on the 16 gig drive.

Maybe a symlink with the original folder permissions set only to be changed/edited by
root user is the way to go. If I am way off base jmadero. Then sorry.

At least I bumped your thread.

As I understand it, you want a new folder with the mix contents of other two folders.

If it is that, the short answer is no (what would be done if the folders have the same filename with different contents?).

    But
    * You can create a symlink on your computer folder to the external folder and vice versa (creating a subfolder), I guess you know that
    or
    * You can synchronize both folders, making that having the same content. I use subversion for some contents, rsync for others.

Sorry if I didn't get your question
    Regards
    Luis
