    Remote access

I have recently setup a new Ubuntu box to better familiarize myself with Linux and do programming. However, I run into the situation where I need to be able to access the computer remotely from my Windows box (two machines, one monitor). I want a way to access the machine so that I can see the desktop and I have looked into the different flavors of VNC and NX, however, I have never worked with these before (only used remote desktop up to this point) so I don't know how to set these up very well.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Gagnarth,

The newer versions of Ubuntu come pre-installed with VNC. Click on System > Preferences > Remote Desktop

Click "Allow other users to view your desktop" and "Allow other users to control your desktop" and set a password.

Once this is set up you should be able to get into it from vnc on your windows machine.

Of course if you are remoting accross the internet you will obviously need to do some port forwarding on your router.

Thank you Cheesecake42. I was finally able to get VNC to work for accessing my machine.
